Travelogue

July 29 - 31

We were really looking forward to Madrid - not only because of the Judas Priest concert but because of the city itself! We headed to Frankfurt at 7:30 am and parked our car at the Platzhirsch parking garage. I can really recommend that place because it's cheap and the shuttle service to the airport is included - makes life a bit easier.

Flying above the clouds was beautiful but turning circles while enduring really bad turbulences for over 20 minutes before landing really sucked! Man, that was hell, even for Tina!

We took the Metro which was so easy to our fabulous 4 star hotel Senator Espana, dropped our luggage off and headed immediately into the city. 35 °C let us sweat like hell...

A Guinness for me and a Amstel for Tina and unfortunately a pretty tasteless Paella for the both of us!

Madrid had a quarter where there was one beer pub beside the other - heaven! Cerveceria Alemana was of course obligatory for Tina and I before we headed to a micro brewery with really awesome tasting dark beer.

Afterwards we did a little sightseeing tour by foot passing by the Plaza Mayor and the royal palace.

We went back to the hotel and it was already 10 pm and although we had been up since 6 am there was no way we were going to go to bed - haha - sleep when you're dead. So, we took a needed shower and headed for the Metalzone - a quarter of Madrid where they there was metal pub beside metal pub - awesome. We found one with the Sign Of The Hammer (and the LP framed inside!) on it so it wasmore than obvious that we chose that place. I called Lorena and she met us there a while later on. Tina and I enjoyed ourselves ice cold San Miguel which they served in quite big looking plastic cups. The next day we found out that they held a complete liter so that stopped me wondering quite quickly... ;)

After Lorena arrived we changed the location and went to the place where Carolina worked. We had a lot of fun together and it was a great night. We had a couple of more beers and then headed to the hotel - or so I had been told - hicks...

The next morning we did a little more sightseeing and ate extermely delicious Tapas in the market hall.

In the afternoon we did take a little nap because in the evening we were heading to the 5 hour Gig!

On Sunday we went back to the market hall, had ourselves some more Tapas and ended our visit in Madrid in a Spanish-Irish pub drinking a Guinness together before finally flying home!

Madrid is a great city and I can really recommend a visit. The flair was cool and relaxed and the people were all so damn nice and helpful although not many of them spoke English...
