The following albums haven't just written music history in my opinion but have actually done very much to create new styles of music. I was there when it happened (except for the album from LedZep, because I was in Kindergarden at the time...) and I actually grew up with them.

It's been along time since I Rock 'n' Roll...

IV - Led Zeppelin

Black Dog, Rock 'n' Roll, The Battle of Evermore and When the Levee breaks - raw and pure with a bluesy feeling. Times were getting harder - thank God for that! Robert Plant's voice krept under my skin and Jimi Page was to inspire many guitarists to come - my air guitar was borne. And yet still a song for all eternity - Stairway to Heaven - I've heard and sang this song thousands of times - Led Zep at their best.

Welcome to my Nightmare - Alice Cooper

Fuckin' crazy - an album full of theatrical moments and so many feelings going up and down - Alice Cooper an actor in his own initiated show - or maybe it wasn't just a show but his real inner feelings. Listening to songs like Only Women Bleed or Years ago, Steven and The Awakening  - could one be sure? Vincent Price's performance - legendary...

Hemispheres - Rush

Prog-Rock at perfection. An album par excellence. The song Hemispheres hits my nerve. The one and only voice of Geddy Lee - piercing but still powerful. The precise drums of Neil Peart. I love the tragical story told in The Trees, with an unexpected ending. The  interaction of Geddy's bass and Alex Lifeson's guitar during La Villa Strangiato is just magnificent.

Double Live Gonzo - Ted Nugent

The best Live Recording ever - full of energy and dedication. A fasttalking wildman, who doesn't drink or smoke and gets every Madhouse under control by just using his voice in unsion with his gigantic half-acoustic guitar - I got You in a fuckin' Stranglehold. Just what the Doctor ordered, Gonzo, Baby please don't go, The Great White Buffalo - Songs that kick my fuckin' ass. And Wang Dang Sweet Poontang, - listen to that guitar solo - smooth as velvet, one of a kind. And who in the Hell can scream like him anyway?

What's Next - Frank Marino

You got livin' - is there any better way to start an album? Can a man play better than him - more intensive - giving us licks that could be more energy filled and still singing at the same time - no!Something's comin' our Way - and a man becomes one with his guitar! You always think his solos are over and then all of a sudden he starts to really beat the shit out of you! Giving us the blues in songs like Finish Line, Rock Me Baby and Roadhouse Blues. If you ask me he'll have his place in the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame for sure - Mona, what do you say...?

Van Halen

Oh my God - Eruption with the following Girl You really got me - fuck guys, listen to that guitar - special thanks to MesaBoogie! Ain't talkiing about Love - Eddie Van Halen revolutions the sound of the electric guitar - Jimi Hendrix would've been proud. David Lee Roth, who actually can't sing, does it anyway (w/o him Van Halen is NOT Van Halen) - the coolest Gigolo the world has ever seen - Ladies, it's time to lay down...

Highway to Hell - AC/DC

Bon Scott is AC/DC and this album is Rock 'n' Roll. Highway to Hell and my career as a headbanger had begun! Angus Young, the wild man, jumping around on one foot, sometimes losing his pants but always going nuts, while his brother holds the rhthym. Easy-listening and nasty rock songs, that make sure nobody is just sitting around - awesome!

British Steel - Judas Priest

Breakin' the what... the NWOBHM was born. Two lead guitars constantly duelling each other and filling the rhythm parts with true power – the revolution finalized. Rapid Fire burns like hell - pounding the world like a battering ram. Halford the Metal God. His voice is the voice of Metal. United their next hymn would bring all Metal heads together! Steeler a very powerful track with a great speed.

Heaven and Hell - Black Sabbath

It’s pretty funny because in my opinion this is Dio’s best recording. A perfect record which goes straight to your heart. Full of emotions. Dio's mighty voice has a bluesy touch and fits perfectly together with Iommi’s guitar. There’s definitely no need of a rhythm guitarist wit a bassist like Geezer Butler. Neon Knights and Heaven and Hell awesome songs, full of energy and feeling. The guitar solo at the beginning of Die Young gives me goose bumps that just never vanish…

Angel Witch

Rough and almost chaotic sound – a screaming guitar and vocals full of pain describe this milestone of NWOBHM. Listening, I feel the mystical magic and become the hunted warlord, who must escape the inquisitor from the dark ages…

Black Metal - Venom

Lay down Your Souls to the God's Rock and Roll! It was the beginning of a new era of Heavy Metal. Venom was loud and dirty – to Hell and maybe not back again… The name of the album would become the name of a new genre. Talent was not important – the sound was bad – from Hell – Metal’s answer to No Future - If God won't help me - than the Devil must...

Master of Puppets - Metallica

Extremely heavy guitars, a crystal clear sound, ultra-hard and fast - Bang the Head that doesn't bang. Thrash Metal at its best! I myself consider this album to be one of the best metal albums ever recorded. Metallica were wild and still very hungry. They didn’t have anything to lose and that’s the way they played - Battery, Master of Puppets, Damage Inc. speak for themselves. Being Disposable Heroes themselves at the time…

Rising Force - Ingwie Malmsteen

The man is a genius, a perfectionist but he is also – maybe just because of that fact – an arrogant megalomaniac. But he had created a way of combining metal with classic – playing his guitar like no one has ever played before. A violinist without a bow – music for your senses - Far beyond the Sun...

The Ultimate Sin - Ozzy Osbourne

A very commercial album - A Shot in the Dark! Ozzy's voice still powerful. The sound very clean and clear. Jake E. Lee's guitar fitting perfectly to the recording. Thank God for the Bomb, lyrics made in the time of the Cold War. Just a timeless "easy listening" metal album from the Madman. And also one of my favourite cover artworks!

Kings of Metal - Manowar

Eat Tar and Gasoline - We're the Kings of Metal, comin' to Town - Stand and fight, live by Your Heart - Your Kingdom will come - Hail and Kill - Blood Of The Kings! Is it possible to describe a true lifestyle in any better way than that? I feel an unrestrained energy for life and the will to live - straight forward and merciless. Eric Adams sings inimitable with a voice able to reach octaves that others can only dream of. Listening to the music just gives me an unbelievably positive feeling. For me it's MANOWAR at their best - FOUR KINGS OF METAL - FOUR METAL KINGS

Crimson Idol -WASP

Blackie Lawless – a man who has no limits – wild and crazy, provocative and embarrassing - yet still intelligent and full of emotions.  This is the perfect concept album in my opinion. A tragic story that must be heard from the beginning until the end. The fast and furious rise to fame, which ends in deep agony, can be heard in Lawless’s voice – caught inside of him. No chance to escape, no hope left – the only way to freedom - is suicide…

King of the Kill - Annihilator

Mastermind Jeff Waters releases his masterpiece under the pretence of Annihilator - but it is his work and his alone. What should I say, he sings, he wrote all the songs, he plays all the guitars and the bass. Randy Black is his only companion on the drums. Brilliant, hard, varied and full of ideas - Metal at it's very very best.

Bastards - Motörhead

Motörhead was borne again - a fuckin' fabulous and consistent album. Raw, fast, hard - Rock 'n' Roll Lemmy Kilmister-Style. I love his bass but Mickey Dee is irreplaceable for Motörhead. His playing drives the music forwards - never was a drummer more important.

Howlin' Mercy - John Campbell

Holy Shit – I’ve always loved the slide guitar- and this guy gives it to me like no one else ever has. No mercy. A very intense CD – the best in blues combined with rock – hard and yet sad. His solos actually start when others are finished. Ultra cool songs that haunt your soul. John Campbell, a Wolf among the Lambs or the other way round? He shouldn’t have gone this soon - R.I.P.

Invictus - Virgin Steele

As the head is chopped off and Edward Pursino’s guitar bursts into life – heavy and mean – the listener knows where he is headed for. The drums galloping and the rhythm going straight forwards. The orchestral arrangement of the songs and the voice of David Defeis let this music sound heroic! You are in the battle – always searching for your sword! I sing of Power, Magick and Faith, a Sonnet of pure Victory. This concept album brings us closer to the gods, half-gods and people who play an intriguing game to survive – a truly touching scenario - Veni,Vidi, Vici...

Train of Thought - Dream Theater

This is definitely their most controversial CD. Much too heavy say the “real” Prog-Rock-Fans. For me it’s the only CD I actually like from Dream Theater. John Petrucci’s guitar is bombastic, heavy and penetrates my nerves to the max. Jordan Rudess’s keyboards always present and backing the guitar up. Mike Portnoy’s drums pushing and striving onwards, heavy. James LaBrie’s voice alternating from hard to emotional when ever needed. Everything combined makes this CD to a very intensive experience. Very complex songs – perfectly arranged. All aboard…

The Glorious Burden - Iced Earth

The voice of Tim Owens is just awesome – powerful, alternate, emotional – just magnificent! It is his voice that brings Jon Schaffer’s musical and the lyrical masterpiece to life. A journey through history, not always full of glory. The Gettysburg-Epos brings us the civil war in all its tragedy and pain – neighbours become enemies. The CD is very patriotic but songs like When the Eagle Cries are a sign of our present time and a scream of vengeance against terrorism - THEY WILL PAY!!!

Manowar hits 2007 - the CD is loved and hated. People question themselves, asking this and that and why and why not - but I don't give a shit because I don't ask myself anything. Gods Of War has truly surpassed my expectations by a mile. The Odin-concept, the symphonical and epic sound. My body is torn from screaming warcries to getting the goose bumps. Eric Adams sings better than ever - his voice penetrates my skin - brilliant - he now has the voice of a God. The interaction of the instruments, the narrations, the heroic choirs carry you on Sleipnir's back to Valhalla - Metal at its best - Hail Odin!

Judas Priest - Nostradamus

Judas Priest explores new terrain releasing their first concept album - and a masterpiece is done. I know many metal heads will say, "That's not metal!" Well, I've only got one answer for them - FUCK YOU. Brilliantly composed into a whole story - the listener gets to take part into Nostradamus' life. Halford may not be able to hit the high notes like he used to but his voice is very powerful and penetrating. The guitars and the arrangements are fabulous - perfect - magnificent.
