Travelogue Austria

September 2003

During one of our countless discussions we started talking about hiking. We both liked hiking but never had had the right partner to do it with.

So we decided to go to the Alps in September. We booked a nice hotel in Saalbach-Hinterglemm/Austria.

We arrived in the afternoon and enjoyed the beautiful landscapes. The hotel was grand and even had a small sauna area.

After having a four course meal we started planning our first tour for the next day. Oh wow, I was really excited!

The next morning we quickly put on our hiking boots – the mountains were calling us…

Udo and I started off doing a very fast pace. We again found out that we fit perfectly together – we saw the summit and nothing could stop us! Unfortunately I had gotten myself big blisters after our first hiking tour - but not even those blisters could put me down. Each day we hiked to different summits and enjoyed the great mountain air and the nature – we were very happy. In the evening we went to the sauna to relax before having a great meal. Afterwards to finish off the evening we had a couple of beers and schnapps ;)

We earned ourselves those goodies because the weather was pretty rough sometimes. We even had to hike through snow once.

On one day we were forced to take a break – our feet needed to recover. And my muscles were aching like hell. So we drove to Salzburg and visited the city where Mozart was born. On our way home we bought chips and schnapps at Aldi. You were only allowed to take a right turn leaving the parking lot – but we had to go in the left direction! Udo carefully looked and when he saw that nobody was coming he took a left turn onto the road. That turned out to be a mistake because there was a plain police car hiding amongst the bushes who was actually just waiting for “bad guys” like us ;) So they gave us a ticket. If we had taken that money we could have bought the best schnapps in the whole town  * shit *   ...

I’ll never forget that week – it was a new experience for me to go hiking with Udo. This experience was to leave its mark.
